If you are hungry for fresh produce, thirsty for a frosty brew or shot of bourbon or looking to soothe your savage breast (look it up), you would be remiss if you didn't make it to market this upcoming Thursday. Along with the usual cadre of cantaloupes, crafts and carrots, the market will be featuring a classical string quartet AND after you partake in the produce and pianissimo, you can get your Thirsty Thursday started while browsing through some of the funkiest finds in Mt. Airy!
Can you handle all of this in one place?
Let's break it
down:
Our usual farmers' will be attending. Weavers Way Farm, the
one that is so local that Eggplant could make it to market on foot, will be at
market with their usual array of locavorian delights ranging from herbs to
flowers to carrots and then some. And of course Sorbello Girls will be bringing
the blueberries (and peaches, nectarines, the aforementioned cantaloupes and
more). Zea Mays is also in the mix, with their always delicious array of Native
American inspired delights.
Our crafter is a returning vendor, Mt. Airy local LS-Drew Graphics. A one person printmaking studio which speciales in wearable images on screen printed T-shirts. The studio's proprietor, Laurel Schwass-Drew, really enjoyed the vibe last time she came to market and wanted to give it another go. Let's make it worth her while!
Musical Chairs (love that name) will be appearing as the
musical guest this week. Founded in 2011, Musical Chairs boasts 4
classically-trained teenage musicians whose repertoire
includes works by Dvořák, Rosza, Barber, Britten, Schubert, Shostakovich, Mendelssohn,
among others. We are excited to hear these young people play, as well as
the air of sophistication their style of music will lend to our market!
So you've read this much and
probably are asking "What about the Beer and the Bourbon?" And I'm sure
some of you would like to know about the bathroom fixtures as well. Two words
will solve your queries - Philadelphia Salvage!
Established
in 2011, Philadelphia Salvage is a shop boasting 5,000 sq. ft. of architectural
salvage, industrial design, and reclaimed lumberyard. You’ll find fabulous,
frugal, funky finds from Period to Mid-Century Modern AND they get new items
in every week! Their items? Take a deep breath and read this: Bathroom and
plumbing fixtures: sinks, tubs and toilets. Lighting and other electrical
fixtures. Doors, windows and cabinets. Reclaimed Lumber, materials, tiles, and
flooring. Furniture, knick knacks, and much more!
They are proud to be just one of
the fantastic local businesses in the village of Mt. Airy, and they strive to
support fellow community merchants. They hope that after you pick up fresh
local produce at Market or support other neighboring shops, you'll stop by
their shop on Thirsty Thursdays (every Thursday 4-7PM) to join them for beer,
bourbon, and relaxed shopping. Incidentally, you can check out their website and
find them on Facebook and Etsy.
There is going to be a lot going on at market this Thursday. Get some produce, get a bison sausage, get a beer, get a bathroom fixture and then shake it to some Shostakovich. Only in Mt. Airy!
